Westing Game Theme Literary Essay Have you ever been played by a lie? The Westing Game’s main theme is lies and deception. The book is about people who move to Sunset Towers, and participate in the Westing Game. They have different clues and jobs. Eventually, Turtle Wexler figured it out and won. I think this is the main theme because Sydelle faked a leg injury, Barney, Sam, Sandy, and Julian are all trick identities of one person, and Crow doesn’t tell the heirs she was Sam Westing’s ex. There is a lot of dishonesty in the Westing Game. There is a lot of lies in the Westing Game. From Sydelle Pulaski - "The Best of the Best" Sydelle pretended to have a leg injury the entire book to draw attention to herself. The book says, “Sydelle Pulaski had discarded her crutches. She had all the attention she could handle without them.”(Raskin 216) This quote shows that she was using the crutches and leg injury for attention.
