In 1941, the Canadian legislation made changes to allow women the choice to enlist themselves in the Canadian forces. Britta considered this as an opportunity for her to join the army and to be equal to her husband’s role in service. In addition to Britta, more than 45,000 women volunteered for military service. Their duties expanded from nursing and cooking to drivers and mechanics. This gave an opportunity for those to do more than what they are trained to to do. By 1941, 23% of the Canadian warforce are married women. Britta then joined the army as a nurse, forcing Micayla to live with her friend Sara. Sara is one of Britta’s closest friends, she works at the same hospital and is a nurse. Sara is a tall female, and she is always on top of things. After Britta finding out that her husband has died in the war. She fell in love with a French soldier while working abroad. His name is Henry, Henry is a tall white man, who has brown hair with brown eyes. He has been in military service for about 4 years in France. Britta then made plans to bring him back to Canada. This new law will finally allow Britta to keep her citizenship. When Britta safely arrived back in Canada a general electric invented the first clothes washer. This made Britta’s life much easier to work at home and provide clothes for her children in a more efficient way. In 1948, United Nations accepts the “ Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. This supports the right that all people are equal regardless of race, sex, colour, and language. Britta was so proud that Canada was now realizing the issues against women, and now the first main step towards equality of gender- between women and men was formed.
