Comparing Two News Broadcasts From WTMJ And WDJT (CBS)

COMM 2100 Broadcasting Discussion
For this discussion, I compared two news broadcasts from WTMJ (NBC) and WDJT (CBS).
NBC was doing a local broadcast on a stray donkey that had been found in the city. The reporter is centered in the video with a background of the city of Milwaukee – shown on a plethora of TV screens. There is a “TMJ4” trademark on the bottom of the screen. The large amount of TV’s with the Milwaukee background is more distracting than it is appealing. The viewer has to stare at it for a while to realize what it is and it seems unnecessary to have so many screens portraying a simple background. The lighting is a little darker around the anchor and has most of the light focused on him. The presentation is targeting an audience of all ages who might be interested in a stray donkey. The reporter does a fair job on making a dull story sound intriguing to keep the audience interested. Overall the presentation and story seem rather amateurish. The CBS broadcast had more of a professional manner about it. This broadcast covered a few of the local headlines of the day. There is a cool blue background with orange at the bottom where there is a small CBS logo. It is kept simple while still attracting the viewer’s eye. Audiences of all ages are targeted as the news can apply to anyone interested in what is going on in Milwaukee. There is good lighting on the anchor which sets a good ambiance.
