The Dodger franchise was on the brink of being sold to Los Angeles due to little success and not a big enough market in Brooklyn. Brooklyn had been home to the Dodgers since they became a team, however, the Dodgers’ success was minimal to say the least. They had not won a championship yet and it had been 35 years. People had really stopped caring about the Brooklyn Dodgers. No one cares about a small market team that has little to no success. If they did not win something soon, they would need to be sold. This eventually did happen, Brooklyn was too small of a market for this team so a move to LA was required. A big reason the Dodgers were able to accomplish so much was because of the attention they got from the media. Once Rickey brought Jackie into the league, the Dodgers were a massive media topic. Every newspaper across the nation had a headline article about something Brooklyn Dodgers related. Every time a new manager or player would do something to Jackie or say something about him, it would be a big story throughout the country. This attracted a lot of fans and haters, and either way, Dodger games were played on the radio across the country, on TV, and most of their games were sold out even if it was just to “boo” Jackie Robinson. This allowed for the Dodgers to gain so much more revenue than they had acquired before. Baseball, unlike most other sports today, does not have a salary cap. This allows teams with the most money to spend the most money. The Dodgers had gotten so much money because everyone wanted to see Jackie play. This allowed them to bring in key free agents and make trades for better players and that allowed the Dodgers to win the World
