One of the reasons I didn’t complete a journal entry about the first two chapters of Fun Home was because I’m having trouble articulating why I enjoy reading this graphic novel so much. I was drawn in by Bruce Bechdel’s eccentric habits and the way Alison is telling her life story. One of the first things I noticed about Fun Home was that it’s colored entirely in shades of blue. This artistic choice is possibly addressed in Chapter 5: “I was filling this one day with my favorite color, midnight blue.” (130). Perhaps Alison chose to color her graphic novel in blue because it’s her favorite color, or maybe the instance with her father and the coloring book was a significant memory and demonstration of his character and she wanted to use this
