In this day and age-many over protective parents have become an obstacle towards their children in terms of raising them up, and allowing them to interact with the world. What parents are not realizing that, there overprotection will cause their children to become anxious, and render useless when trying make their own decisions. These types of parents are known as helicopter parents and overprotective parents. According to the article by Ungar mentions "Shyam wasn’t thinking about the harm she was causing her 8-year-old daughter, Marian, when she demanded her daughter’s school put an extra crossing guard closer to their home” (Ungar 1). This is a problem because Marian an 8years old should already know when is the correct moment to crossing the street. Newman said “I’ve seen a lot of these children who are parented in the helicopter manner who can’t make a decision. They calling home constantly” (Aucoi3). This is harmful because young adults who are trying to be professional need to know how do decision by themselves. One time I found myself at the doctor office, where the doctor was calling his mother to talk about the medicine he was about to order. The article by Ungar explain about Tricia a girl who wanted more responsibility in her life. Unfortunately, her overprotective parents would not allow her to participate or to be responsible in normally activities. Consequently, not having the responsibility that Tricia wanted that made it when she became a teenager not knowing that it is convenient for her. In addition, in the article by Aucoin informs that college students who parents fit in the description helicopters parents had slightly lower grades than other students. Parents take on the responsibilities their children must meet and results in their children failing to meet their college obligations. My personal experience at an early age I was responsible for bringing good grades in high school. This responsibility is important because it made me become a better student now in college.
In conclusion, parents who preoccupy themselves with overprotecting their children are actually causing harm to their child’s development. Parents can cause this harm during the yearly ages of the child, and in addition in later stages of adulthood. When children are not allowed to experiment with decision making or take responsibility for themselves it can lead to much larger problems in the future. Parents should understand that they can’t always be in their child’s life. Children need decision making, and responsibilities while growing up, so that
