These two forms of communication were radio and newspaper. Radio was used to destroy Upton Sinclair’s campaign by having scripts about Sinclarism and radio assaults on his program, EPIC. In the book review, The Campaign of the Century, the author said “His radical program for economic change, dubbed End Poverty in California (EPIC), called for a state income tax on corporations and the idle factories and farms to be turned over to the unemployed” (Petrakos 1). In the cartoon Upton Sinclair is yelling, “Empty Promises in California” which is Sinclair’s plan of EPIC twisted to make him look like he was trying to help the state and is lying to the California Democracy. This cartoon represents how Sinclair was seen as lying to the people to get what he wanted through EPIC. Another cartoon that used to get people to lose trust in Sinclair was one of Sinclair forcing the Democratic Party into his EPIC plan. The Democratic Party was symbolized by a donkey that did not want to be put in the box and happened to be pushed in by Sinclair. Also, in the cartoon Sinclair said, “If the darn donkey could get just one taste--!” This cartoon overall symbolizes that Upton Sinclair
