On September 3, 1967, I Jane Doe was involved in a burglary. I was naive, immature and had a low self-image. The combination of these things caused me to put more trust in others rather than myself. I allowed others to have greater influence over me and my life in every way except that which was productive.
As a result of my aforementioned choices, and against the wishes of my family and legal counsel, I chose to take responsibility and not defend the case in court.
During my period of incarceration, I spent that time discovering Jheramie. I took what I believe was a wonderful opportunity for me to get to know me. My diligence in learning and enhancing my critical thinking and decision-making skills puts a smile on my face when I look in the mirror. This is something that I could not do just six years ago. I also took general education and skill-based courses to assist me in expanding my knowledge base

And although my search for employment began prior to being released, I was able to dedicate greater time to my quest for employment afterwards. I became involved with a non-profit organization, Fathers, Families and Healthy Communities (FFHC), to speak with youth about the importance of education, self-love, patience, and healthy relationships.
Being involved with FFHC and speaking with youth has been a rewarding experience. Not only do I have an opportunity to give back, I learn new things about myself as well. I was in similar shoes at some point in my life. Providing the youth in the program with my experience allows them in depth look at how one poor judgement call can alter your life forever. It further provides them with an opportunity to see someone change their thinking, thereby change their life.
I have always had a solid work ethic. However, did not possess a clearly defined understanding of what it meant to be a positive, uplifting role model through a positive self-image. I did not have that in my
