Burmese Python are one of the five largest species of snakes in the world and in the last few years, they’ve been having a tremendous impact on the Everglades with their increasing reproduction. We have been collecting data from different surveys in this past year and compared some of them with records collected before theses predators were common on the Everglades. This surveys were managed by park rangers who conserved track of the road-killed animals at that time following them with a slow speed in order to get their finals results and thanks to them we nowadays could compare the variation of numbers through time. But now in this day, these reptiles have been known to consume much of the natural wildlife including mammals and bird. In addition, last year, they were discovered eating an alligator and even though we know that the Burmese python feeds on wildlife, its reproduction is increasing every day bringing as a consequence the decrease of the abundance of the population in that area. …show more content…
Today, approximately a 25% of Burmese pythons are found with birds’ remains, and despite that quantifying birds is very difficult, studies showed that birds such as grebes and rails are particularly vulnerable to python predation. In conclusion, these Burmese pythons are gravely impacting the ecosystem in south Florida because as the annual elimination of these reptiles is increasing, the variation of birds and mammals in the ecological communities is significantly diminished and an example of these places is the Everglades National Park
