Burton Callicott was born in 1907 in Terre Haute, Indiana. When Burton Callicott was growing up he spent his time the field of arts. Mr. Callicott’s career spanned over seventy years which not only included being an artist, but it also included him being an educator. Burton Callicott studied and completed his schooling in 1931 at the Cleveland School of Art. It was there he began to experiment with different artist ideas and tools for his future pieces. The use of light and dark began to evolve and shape his art pieces which would later shine through his completed work. For the Memphis area, Burton Callicott is known for creating three massive murals which is in the Memphis Pink Palace Museum above a beautiful staircase named The Coming of De Soto.
