Task 1
Effective communication is very important to any business. People in business communicate in different ways every day with customers and other members of staff and the people who work for the company are the first point of contact.
Verbal communication is communicating with someone face to face. The key components of this are sounds, words, speaking and language.
Coleg Llandrillo use verbal communication to communicate with many people, such as students, parents, staff etc. They use this in many ways. The receptionists communicate verbally with external customers and other businesses and students. Teaching staff teach the students by communicating with them verbally. And administrative staff communicates verbally in meetings, telephone conversations and general discussions during the day etc.
Written communication is communication by means of written symbols (either printed or handwritten). The college use verbal communication mainly, to advertise. They try to get students to go and learn there. They also use it to communicate with families of students and other organizations that they’re involved with.
They have many uses for verbal communication. They send letters to students and other companies to inform them of something; they also have information leaflets with written information on them to communicate with people that are starting college and people who are already studying there. They give a little information about the college and its courses. They give reports to the student’s parents so they can view their progress in their course; the tutor gives a written report to communicate with parents. The college, like any other college/university, has a prospectus for new students to look at if they’re thinking of attending that college/university. This is a form of verbal communication because it is communicating with the students by giving them information about the college such as: the courses, the facilities, the establishment, the staff etc. You’ll find a prospectus in the reception area. The college advertises in the newspapers as well. They also have a variety of posters to advertise a lot of things such as campaigns, events, important announcements etc.
On-screen communication is communication that is displayed on a screen. Screens can include: TV screens (digital, HD, Satellite, Freeview or Cable), Computer screens / monitors, Mobile phones, iPad screens and iPod / MP3 player screens. The college use information screens on a TV in the reception area to advertise. They also use it to show important announcements/news to students and college staff.
