C.S. Lewis’ “Meditation in a Toolshed” brings an interesting message that all people should consider when taking on a viewpoint of an event or phenomenon. The message he is trying to convey is the encouragement of better perception. Rather than just look at a subject, a person should actually look along a subject in hopes to ascertain a truthiness and validity of the subject. Throughout the essay, Lewis makes point examples such as a lover’s relationship, or a mathematician who ponders with thought and spacelessness. Even an example of a savage dance of Nyonga is brought into question. Each one share a common viewpoint that a reader or normal person may make at the face value of each example. But to a professional viewpoint, it may differ due to the perception of different views. An example is how a man would view the feels of affection in a love relationship as falling “in love” but to a Scientist, his viewpoint maybe more focused on the stimulus of the human body, and the sexual impulses. I want to say that I agree with his opinion. We are in a generation where technology is easily accessed as well as easily providing information that people can learn from. The issue is how people are quickly latch onto certain viewpoints and reject other viewpoints. Take for example; Donald Trump. While Donald Trump is a potential candidate for the 2016 election, many of his viewpoints may harbor a negative and invalid way of thinking. His build a giant wall to keep Mexican immigrants gains quite a positive popularity to Americans, because most Americans are currently in distaste for immigrants. Rather than quickly access a situation of immigration, why don’t Americans research and find alternatives to resolving this kind of issue.
