The resource that I have chosen to evaluate is a website representing the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy at www.cacpt.com. This website contains four different tabs that include an “About Us” section, a “Membership” section, an “Education and Certification” section, and a “Publications and Marketplace” section. The “About Us” page generally details the CACPT program philosophy and a future strategic plan, the directors and supervisors of the website, an annual report, and a list of certified play therapists that are available for contact across various locations in Canada. The “Membership” section outlines the different memberships offered by CACPT and how to apply for them, the benefits of being a member, a code of ethics, …show more content…
Play therapy connects to an understanding of the socio-dramatic and pretend play that shapes the early conceptual and emotional development of children. In particular, it involves a heavy focus on behavioural strategies that distract a child from the negative aspects of their life. The website includes workshops that offer storytelling, puppetry, and creative activities that may be beneficial for a child to gain an understanding of social norms and how to behave in specific situations. For a child who is going through a difficult time, these workshops can also provide a way for parents and children to interact with others that are facing the same obstacles. It was discussed in class that there are two types of strategies that children use to manage their emotions. Behavioral strategies are used by younger children while cognitive strategies are adopted later on. Play therapy utilizes the use of both strategies for children by distracting them through tasks, mentioned in workshops and offered in courses, that require children to focus their attention on one thing and escape from the current difficulties in their
