This past Thursday night, April 19, 2018, the University of Florida's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences department held their annual CALS Scholarship and Leadership Awards Banquet.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is one of the most diverse and growing departments on campus. This past calendar year, 399 CALS students received scholarships either towards their tuition, books, or even groceries. Over 510,000 dollars has been distributed amongst these group of students.

Each student that attended this prestigious banquet excelled inside and outside the classroom. Boasting terrific grade point averages or being involved in student organizations, the students have displayed their leadership traits in a variety of ways.

We went on a global journey to Chile, where we learned about leadership and other cultures," Fry said.

Fry, who'll graduate next month, also spoke highly on her experience in the CALS Ambassador program this year.

"We had the opportunity to let people know in the public and perspective students what it's like to be in the CALS program here at UF. We're able to network with the Florida agriculture, such as the Dinner of Distinction, as well as informing senators and congressmen know what's happening in the IFAS program," Fry said.

Numerous of scholarship recipients were recognized, along with 12 major award winners inside the CALS department. The CALS departments core values are: integrity, diversity, collaboration, and service and each one of these honorees have engraved these values into their studies and personal lives.

Another terrific young student enrolled in the CALS department is animal science major Ashley O'Steen, who's specializing in Food Animal and a minor in agribusiness. The Lake Butler, Florida native is also an Ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Life
