the movie Cabaret by Bob Fosse is a musical movie that discusses many different problems and ideas that happened inside and outside the cabret. The movie was filmed in Germany in the time that the Nazi party was trying to gather power and promising people to give them a better future and jobs. This was happening because after the world war there was great loss and debit for the country, so the Germans had to get stronger to overcome this period.The characters of the movie played different roles to explain what’s happening in the political and social life outside the entertainment club. In contrast in Cabaret the ending was left open and the lovers were set apart. I think the idea of the American dream and the perfect american narrative was the centre of the 42nd street movie, however this doesn’t have to be the reality, it just makes the ending better. Peggy became a star from one show, which didn’t disappoint the director that worked very hard for this one last performance, explains that well known american myth. I think Cabaret ended this way to show more of reality than mythical narratives. In addition that both movies were written in different periods. Cabaret was written by the time Germany was in debit and post war depression, so it ended with the same mood that the people were in at this time, which is mysterious, unresolved and not happy.This explains that the Nazi party promise of jobs and brighter future was still an idea to be made.On the other hand 42nd street showed how can a hard working dancer who used to work till she falls, succeeds and become the new star.
