I Will Always Write Back, by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda with Liz Welch, is an amazing, well written novel about two people from different countries who develop a unique friendship. Throughout the book the reader learns about Caitlin, a girl from Pennsylvania, and Martin, a boy from Zimbabwe, who start out as pen pals but grow to become best friends. The story helps the reader understand the importance of friendship as Martin and Caitlin did not see each other every day or even speak daily, however they remained best friends. “I felt Caitlin squeeze my hand, and I squeezed back. After six years of imagining what it would be like to see her, hug her, to hear her laugh, to hold her hand, here she was, my best friend from afar, now standing right next to me.” This quote perfectly sums up Martin and Caitlin’s friendship; through everything Martin experienced, Caitlin was always there to support him, whether it was …show more content…
“We are pleased to offer you a full scholarship beginning with the 2003-2004 academic year.” was an email Martin received from Villanova University, which is a college located in Pennsylvania. Caitlin’s mother, Mrs. Alifirenka, worked very hard to get Martin a full scholarship to a collage in the United States and her hard work finally paid off when a school located close to their home accepted him. Without Caitlin’s friendship, Martin would have never been able to come study in America. The authors of I Will Always Write Back did a great job of showing the importance of friendship. The message that the reader gets from reading this book is that one should never take friends for granted and should always be thankful for everything they do. Caitlin and Martin’s friendship was so important to both of them and thats what makes it so special and interesting to read
