The crew kept sailing and had a lot of luck with their pirating activities. Anne proved herself to be a great leader and Mary had excellent navigation skills (Wren 57). However, in the summer of 1720, the Revenge anchored in Hispaniola to steal some cattle. While there, Calico Jack was spotted by officials. Due to the fact that he had broken his promise to discontinue all acts of piracy, he was a wanted criminal. Captain Jonathan Barnett was sent in pursuit of the Revenge to capture Calico Jack. However, the Pirates did not know they were being followed. They even invited some English sailors, from a nearby ship, onboard the Revenge for a drink (Driscoll). When Captain Barnett caught up to the Revenge he ordered his men to fire their guns. Upon hearing the gunshots the scared pirates went below to lower part of the ship for safety. However, Anne and Mary stay on deck to fight. They were extremely outnumbered. Then, Mary ordered the Pirates to come back up and fight with them. The Pirates didn't listen to Mary. This made Mary mad so she aimed her gun at them and killed one of them (Driscoll). In addition, Anne said, "Dogs! If instead of these weaklings I only had some women with me." (Sharp 75). In the end, Anne and Mary were overwhelmed and everyone on board were captured
