California v. Acevedo 1991 The case of California v. Acevedo started on January 8, 1991, and was decided on May 30, 1991. California was the petitioner and the respondent was Charles Acevedo. The case was that police officers searched Charles Acevedo’s car and found marijuana, this was because previously they had seen him leave and apartment that was known to contain drugs and left with a bag. At his trial, Acevedo tried to say that the drugs were invalid evidence, as the police had no search warrant.
