Although there are several American values illustrated throughout Calvin Coolidge’s speech, the value of change is more evident than others. Help others and don’t let anything stand in the way. Everyone has something they can contribute to better society. Change can benefit anyone. There is evidence of this value’s relevance in my life. I am in Pal PE. Other students and I spend time with disabled students. We participate in fun activities throughout the community. My pal, Gabby can’t walk, talk, or feed herself, but that doesn’t mean she can’t do anything. She has changed my life. I have learned to appreciate the life I am fortunate to have. Not everyone receives the same opportunities, but everyone has a purpose and abilities whether they are disabled or not. Gabby has opened my eyes to what other’s life is like. They are a thrift store and they donate the money that they make to the women’s shelter. They wanted to renovate their store, but didn’t have the money. I created a CAD drawing of what it looked like and what they wanted it to look like after the renovation. My contribution allowed them to save money and proceed with the renovation. Although I am not an engineer and I’m in high school I was still able to make a difference and I never doubted myself. My time spent volunteering positively changed many women’s lives in Iowa. Change is one of the most important values in today’s society. Nobody can change the world on their own. It takes teamwork. We have to work together to make a difference. My nanny job was an example of this. I watched a couple’s kids in order for them to be able to go to work. If I would not have done that, they wouldn't have been able to go to work.
