In the Odyssey by Homer and translated by Robert Fitzgerald the character archetype possessed by Calypso, is slightly devilish, but she also being complex and persuasive. “…the divine Calypso placed before him vituals and drink of men; then she sat down facing Odysseus, while her serving maids brought nectar and ambrosia to her side. Then each one’s hands went out on each one’s feast until they had had their pleasure…” Calypso has the protagonist of the story, Odysseus, trapped on her island, and is using him for her own pleasure, but the way Calypso goes about her deeds makes it to where Odysseus does not know he is under her control. With this being so she can do whatever she wishes without him ever trying to escape or retaliate for any means.
