Most people at Camp Don Lee know me as "Nikki". I have been blessed to grow up in Morehead City/Atlantic Beach my whole life; allowing me to be close to the water in all aspects. I am very blessed to have two very supportive parents. My mother is a science teacher and my father is a local pastor. Being a preacher’s kid is a very interesting experience. I always tell people that I can’t remember a time in my life when I “decided” to become a Christian. I’ve always considered myself one, however, I haven’t always felt like I was living my purpose. I was in middle school when my family could finally afford to send me to Camp Don Lee, (with major financial support from our church). That first summer sparked the beginning of a journey in my life that I never expected. The next year I insisted on being a Tweeker. Like any teenager, my head was always spinning with emotions. Although I was dedicated to school, sports, and band; I still felt like I was lost. This caused me to stray away, becoming depressed and angry. The following summer I went to camp and had a life changing experience. It was the end of the day, we were in our group having our end of the night closing fellowship. The Holy Spirit hit me like a ton of bricks and I started bawling. I begged my counselor (Cameron Younts), to talk with me. We walked down to the water, sat on a bench where we do morning watch, and talked for hours. The rest of those two weeks we talked about God, life, and purpose, every night. I swear, God worked a miracle through Cameron to help me get back on the right path in life. After that, I went back to school and exceeded tremendously. I ended my senior year as the Head Drum Major, Homecoming Queen Runnerup, and graduated with the Presidential
