Jacob Berg was sitting at the head of the table, as counselors did at Camp Eisner. When Vent returned from Mirpa’a, he sat next to his counselor. He still couldn’t believe what happened. He just hoped the camper was not hurt. “Is everything okay?” the concerned counselor asked. “The nurse told me to eat something.” “Okay. Do you want to eat now or do you think you can wait until we say the Motzi?” Jacob asked with sincerity. The Motzi, the Jewish prayer over eating bread, was to be said in this camp before every meal and nobody is to eat before saying it, except in emergencies. Jacob felt that this was enough of an emergency to eat before the prayer. “No, I should be fine until then,” Vent responded. “Okay then,” the counselor said, knowing …show more content…
He was sure of one thing: he saw an activity he signed up for, Ultimate Frisbee, right outside, being played by kids in his age group. This meant next was lunch, and he would be able to eat something that wouldn’t make him throw up. Vent stood up and left the isolation room. He told the nurse he was good to go when he was stopped by something on the computer at the nurse’s desk. “What’s this?” he inquired. “It’s an article about 35 people passing out at the same time earlier. How come?” Vent saw the time, 7:54 AM, and thought back to when he passed out. I think I saw my watch when I woke up, he thought. He tried to remember, and suddenly, he did. “Call the news channel this is from,” Vent demanded, “Get my name added to this list.” “What?” the nurse asked, confused. Vent said, “35 people passing out at the same time, and I make 36. You have no idea how important the number of people is. I’ll explain after you call.”

The director smiled when he updated the page on his computer to find a thirty sixth name being added to the list. He immediately spoke into his radio and gave the final man his mission. He then spoke into the radio, “Do you understand your mission?” “Yes, sir” a man responded. “Then it’s time to begin with an
