Book:
Newman, Michael. Soft Tissue Sarcomas. New York: Rosen Publishing, 2012. Print.
Has been around since the beginning of human kind
Key to any structure’s success are materials that tie into its systems together, provide protection, and give it support
Human body made up of more than 6oo muscles that allow us to perform functions like walking, lifting, pumping blood throughout the body, etc
Tissue – collection of cells that carry out specific functions
A few types of soft tissues
Muscles - Consist of thousands of long cells (fibers) which slide over/under each other to produce contractions or movements, contractions support and move the bones in actions people can control (Voluntary), contractions occur without people having to thing (involuntary) in the organs they must work 24hr x 7 days a week
Cardiac – found only in wall of heart
Skeletal – permits arms + hands to move
Smooth – extremely stretchable, lines walls of stomach, intestines, bladder, blood vessels; allow organs to perform daily functions
Tendons – Tough, flexible bands of fiber-like tissues that connect muscle to bone; Skeletal muscles contract, tendons associate with them exert pulling forces on the bones to which they are attached; job is to relay the force of the muscle to the bone without buclking under tension of stretching that occurs
Ligaments – keep human skeleton in proper alignment and prevent joints such as the knee and elbow from moving abnormally, also provide support to internal organs (Uterus, bladder, liver, diaphragm)

Soft tissue sarcomas are cancerous (Malignant) tumors
They originate in soft tissues of your body
Soft tissues in your body connect, support, and surround other body structures
A few examples of soft tissues included muscle, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons, and the lining of your joints; large varieties of soft tissue sarcomas can occur in these areas
Soft Tissue sarcomas aren’t common
Soft tissue sarcomas are very serious, especially if diagnosed when the disease is more advanced
There are many types of sarcomas; they generally share similar characteristics, produce similar symptoms, and are treated in similar ways
