Different approach on particular things that are happening around us can lead to different kind of news that the viewers see. Newsworthy, which is defined as interesting or important stuff that is enough to report as news, and cultural values, which are its ideas about what is good, right, fair, and just. If these are interpreted differently there is a tendency of seeing different kind of news. This is shown in two different broadcast news sources, Vice and BBC news of which these both have made news about the situation going on in in western Africa, particularly Liberia. The Muslims and the Christians are fighting against each other and we hear this from one of the victim’s family who wants revenge on Muslims who killed his wife and child. We see newsworthiness here as the Christians are shown in the beginning of the footage carrying machetes and showing anger towards the Muslims. The Christians drag a dead body that Mad Dog has killed for the revenge of his relatives that were killed by the Muslims. We see that this is newsworthy but approached in a different way causing it to be more different from the one directed by Vice. Here BBC News keep it formal and they don’t show themselves getting involved in the crisis but as a news source that is just trying to capture this issue of cannibalism. They make the viewers a little emotional about the issue of Christians and Muslims killing each other. BBC raises an issue of how Muslims and Christians should stay in their own territories. They deliver their news different from Vice. They make their news formal compared to vice who goes all the way to engage with the people of Liberia so he can show the world what’s really happening over …show more content…
Vice goes to the extent of showing the culture of the Liberians. The Liberians are full of poverty and this is causing them to get engaged in drugs. A little kid is high on drugs so he can forget about not going to school or getting something to eat. This makes this piece made by Vice very important to the leaders of the world and calls for their attention. As Robert K. Merton suggested that the most important values in the world’s society are wealth, success, power, and prestige and the right to go to school, we don’t see any of that in Vice’s piece about Liberia. All what these people do these days is fight against each other hoping for the best one day. The women sell their bodies now in order to attain food. All they depend on now is prostitution which is bad for them and bad for the society as that causes a lot of diseases passed around everyone. However the way he approaches these cultural values on Liberia is so emotional that it touches the viewer’s heart. Everyone does not have an equal opportunity to attain these values but Vice shows how the situation in Liberia has got of
