The state of Maryland is slowing motorist down. Maryland can reduce the time a motorist spends on the road as well as improve the traffic flow. When the speed limit is increase the safety is a concern the implementation of tougher penalties and automated speed enforcement equipment will reduce traffic accidents. Maryland is one of only twelve states that have a fifty-five mile per hour speed limit. Therefore, the capital beltway should raise the speed limit. If the Capital Beltway speed limit is raised, it will reduce the congestion on the roadway. People will travel from exit to exit faster. A higher speed limit will allow the need for excessive lane changes to pass other motorist on the road. there should be more traffic violates enforcement for the motorist that travel at slow speeds in the passing lanes. These motorists cause others to have perform unnecessary change lanes to pass. In addition, when the speed limits signs are changed it should include a minimum speed motorist must travel as well. During the nighttime driving there should be a stricter penalty for excessing the the posted limits. Construction on roads and highway repairs usually take place at night the speed limit within a construction zones should be lowered to allow for safe passing and the construction workers can remain safe to enforce to speed limit there should be a photo enforcement camera and police present near the zone to enforcement at speed.
