During the 4 years I studied for my Bachelor of Arts degree, I took many courses regarding world literature, philosophy, creative and experimental writing. I was also exposed to classes that held themes of multiculturalism and foreign languages. All of these elements combined, inspired me to some degree to choose the topic of my dissertation, which at my university we call Capstone Project. This Capstone Project was a creative written work which became a fiction/non-fiction memoir of my family’s history which I titled: A Matter of Time. I believed the experience my family had could resonate with many other families of immigrants, especially Japanese ones that came to the Dominican Republic during the 1950s and 60s.
