Capulet’s Court Address

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, I am sure you have all joined the rest of Verona here for the same one reason. You all want to see how this court hearing goes, and you all want to see what my punishment is. Well, I will give you quite the show and you will learn many things about my family, myself, and Juliet. There are some ways that I am responsible and some ways that I am not. I personally thought that it was a shared effort though.

Firstly, Juliet was supposed to Marry Paris. He was interested in marrying her and I completely agreed to the marriage 100%. I was happy that someone so nice, caring, and manly, wanted to marry my daughter. Some members of my family and house had been making some arrangements

The answer to that is yes. I do. Since the beginning of the families we have not gotten along and are constantly at each other's throats, and I refuse to back down or agree to any compromise. The amount of hatred that I felt for them is so strong and has caused me a lot of anger that I have bottled up over the years. So, upon hearing this I let everything all out… on Juliet unfortunately. Because of our families hating each other and me enforcing it, Juliet had to sneak around and do everything quietly behind our backs and lie to us. This puts a lot of stress on Juliet and caused her anxiety. All for what? In the name of love. She did it for Romeo and would do anything. Even take her own life. But, I will get to that further in my court address.

Also, while Romeo and Juliet were meeting each other and spending time together, tenions were getting tighter between the two enemy families. There were many angry encounters between the Montagues and Capulets in which insults were traded back and forth, hatred was spread, and even some physical action. On one account there was a sword fight which ended in death of a family member and caused another fight in which a member of the opposite family was killed. All of this was very overwhelming for members of each family, but Juliet especially because it just piled on top of her other
