5-If Europe (Especially Britain) was known for anything, it was their immense seapower, and quick expansion through the entire world via ship, an achievement only available through the invention of the caravel in Portugal in the 1500s. The caravel was a ship with both the European square sails with Arab triangular sails, allowing for a ship that could travel faster, lighter, and easier going against heavy wind. Despite all the talk of the achievements of European explorers, without the caravel their voyages would have been either much longer or simply impossible. Not only being used for exploration, caravels were also used after the Americas had been discovered, being essential for linking the triangle of trade that linked the colonies, Europe, and America.
