Dental Hygienist has an important job in today’s society. They are the first step into good health and preventative health, this is because oral health has a significant impact on overall health. The mouth and teeth are very common areas to find oral diseases and abnormalities. Dental hygienists provide preventive dental services that are necessary to obtaining good overall health. Research is showing that oral health has a bigger impact than people thought and the public is listening. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dental hygienists is projected to increase nineteen percent in the next ten years. Dental hygienists educate and encourage patients to properly care for their teeth. If patients take care of their teeth properly, dental hygienist sees their patients every six months. Since dental hygienist and patients see each other so often, they often form really close bonds. Being a dental hygienist enables you to engage in the community and make a positive impact by helping people physically through their health and mentally by socially interacting with them and becoming a close friend. Knowing that I, will impact and create a great bond with my patient is one of the many reasons I want to pursue a career as a dental hygienist. Many people I know in the dental field are great at socializing with people. If I am one on one with a patient I believe I could be a great friend and educator. CJ entered the appointment catching up with her patient. During their time catching up, CJ’s patient shared that her husband was diagnosed and going through the stages of ALS. The patient asked how she could help him clean his teeth since he has lost feeling in his fingertips. This when CJ’s educating skill came into play. She explained to her patient how he could take care of his teeth. After their time catching up, it was time for the cleaning. While laying the patient down, the patient requested for her not to be lowered any further. It would have been easier for CJ to lower her more but she had to accommodate for her patient comfort. Throughout the day, she had to accommodate many times for her patients’ comfort. For example, CJ’s patient was not comfortable; therefore, she got a blanket for her patient so she could feel
