College today entails four short, but crucial years that determine the path you’ll stroll down for the rest of your life. The already expensive and ever-rising costs of attending college limits your options in the sense that it puts most of us into a financial chokehold the first time around so getting it right the first time is very important because it's unlikely you’ll be able to afford a second round of schooling if things don’t go the way you intended. That's why it’s never too early to plan ahead. In fact, I’ve been planning for college since the fifth grade mapping out my road to becoming a private practicing psychologist.

Of course while preparing yourself for the college-road ahead is much easier said than done it lightens your workload a smidge when you have a definitive idea of what exactly it is you want to do with your life. That’s where I fortunately lucked out. I’ve known my future lies in psychology since the 5th grade after watching my older cousin and best friend struggle with mental illness. I settled on the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill is tied for 12th place with UPenn with a 4.3 rating by U.S. News Education. Although 12th certainly doesn’t sound too ambitious being it clearly isn't the cream of the crop it had been rapidly rising in the ranks and was projected to go even further in the coming years rankings. In fact now it rests with a more than comfortable 4.6 rating sitting below only Stanford University which holds a 4.8. Their well-respected program coupled with the tremendous internship programs they provide made them the best choice in pursuing my education from my bachelors all the way up to my doctorate as a PsyD which is required in the state of New Jersey to be a private practicing
