#CarefreeBlackGirl. Although this hashtag has been around for years, it’s gained major notoriety among black girls recently. The hashtag, #CarefreeBlackGirl, is often captioned under a picture that has a black girl wearing two afro puffs, crop tops, going braless, wearing vans, septum piercings, and taking pictures throwing up a peace sign with her tongue sticking out, which does not insinuate anything negative, but that is really all I see on social media. In my opinion, this offsets the true meaning behind the #CarefreeBlackGirl saying, behind the lifestyle and behind the movement. For me, being a #CarefreeBlackGirl is much more than taking “artsy” photos. Although, it is amazing that black girls are becoming more open to defying social norms, it is still important that they (we) are doing this genuinely for us and not for “likes” because hashtagging #CarefreeBlackGirl is a new trend.…show more content… So then I thought, what does it mean to be a #CarefreeBlackGirl in today’s society?
