The book Swagger by Carl Deuker is an outstanding book. Swagger offered a great connection with my personal life involving basketball. The book taught me life lessons throughout the book, and the author did a tremendous job using imagery to describe the characters. I did and I didn't like the way Deuker wrote Swagger. Many instances lead me to concur with the way Swagger was written, and a few reasons why I didn’t enjoy the plot of Swagger. I connected with Swagger very easily because of my passion for basketball. Throughout the book Jonas expresses his love for basketball. I love basketball, and to learn how my character enjoyed basketball just as much as I do made this reading so much easier. He was never in trouble, and he would always be there to help anyone. I liked how religious, quiet, and helpful Deuker described Levi. Levi was always helping his mom with his sisters. After school every day, he would have to spend a certain amount of time with his sisters before doing his own thing, or hanging out with his friends. He would always do the right thing when he was faced with a sticky situation. Ryan Hartwell was the last character Deuker went into deep detail with. He made him sound innocent, manipulative, and a great young man. Deuker made it sound like Hartwell actually cared about the boys on his basketball team. The author tricked me while I was reading, and proved me to think differently about Hartwell. As the book continued, the author made me strongly dislike Hartwell, and towards the end I almost couldn’t stand to read it anymore because of just one character. “And I like Coach Hartwell, or at least I used to.
