• Radioactive contamination “occurs when material that contains radioactive atoms is deposited on materials, skin, clothing, or any place where it is not desired” (“What is radioactive contamination?,” 2016). o A person contaminated with radioactive material will receive radiation exposure until the source of radiation (the radioactive material) is removed. o Radioactive contamination can be spread.
• Example of radioactive contamination: Radiopharmaceutical spill on the patient
• Patient’s gown is contaminated with radioactive material and has created a hot spot on their images.
• Technologists should clean patients gown immediately after the spill to remove the contamination. They should remove the hot spot out of the image, and if need be, reimage the patient.

• Calling a code in the nuclear medicine department can be done in three different ways: o Dial O (for operator) and say “need a code” o Dial 2911 o Push any code button (blue button that says “CODE”) in the department
