Caroline Knapp’s autobiography is one of the best addiction books I’ve ever read.
Knapp’s describes herself as an “high-functioning alcoholic”, meaning that she was able to balance her work being a journalist and with her excessive drinking. One scene that hasn’t left my mind because of how vivid it was when she was trying to juggle having two significant others at the same time. She wasn’t obliviously or acting as if she didn’t know that alcohol impaired her judgment and found herself making things more difficult for herself.

This is a common issue many addicts have a problem with making constant poor decisions not knowing how to find solutions to their problems because they are so involved in their quest to remain drunk or high. She
