Graffiti has become a major issue in Tucson. " Graffiti has an overwhelmingly negative impact on the environment and neighborhood quality of life and highly encourages proactive graffiti prevention, monitoring and reporting of graffiti sites for abatement or inspection" ( Tucson Clean & Beautiful, n.d., n.p. ). Graffiti Protective coating is the company that Tucson uses to remove graffiti and currently they are paid $60,000 a month by the city to remove it ( Bodfield, 2011). The contracts that Tucson offer are either a couple of years or more. Tucson in 2009, had a few thousands of graffiti, or tags that graffiti techs removed. The year of 2011, graffiti and tags increased rapidly. Homeowners and residents are getting very frustrated and furious due to the tags being done in there neighborhood and locations.

Graffiti cannot always be prevented, but property owners and residents can reduce the incidence of graffiti on building exteriors and walls by having good lighting and uncomfortable vegetation in place. Work with your neighbors, your neighborhood association or home owners’ association to be the eyes and ears for your community.
