Good Evening Mr. Mayor and Council members. In December of 1944, General George Patton’s Third Army prepared to cross the Rhine River in order to invade Germany. Patton and his men were prepared to attack on the 19th of December; however, disturbing whether condition threatened to postpone the attack. Because Patton needed that to change, on the 8th of December at 11 a.m., just 11 days prior to the army’s scheduled advancement, Patton called Head Chaplain of the Third Army, James H. O’Neill, a Catholic priest asking for a prayer for good weather.
