Case Study Joey Black

Joey Black, is a 5th grade student with spastic cerebral palsy. Joey uses a walker and the elevator due to left side hemiplegia and stiff and jerky movements. He also has difficulty to speak and a slurred speech, but does not have any learning disability. Joey is a new student in his current school, and his teacher observed that besides not having many friends he is also showing some anger behavior towards the other students. The school nurse engaged Joey in therapeutic conversation and was able to built up a trust relationship with him. Joey states to the school nurse that because he has disability people teases him and treat him as if he was stupid. He also states missing his friend from his old school.
Due to his health condition, Joey believes that the other students treat him differently and for this reason he is showing anger behavior. The school nurse will need to coordinate his care with the other school's personnel, such as teachers, counselor, psychologist, physiotherapist, speech therapist, social services, principal, and parents. The school nurse will have to know the resources available at her school district, in order to help create an environment that promotes the best educational and emotional support to Joey.
