HUMS/102 October 20, 2014 The problem in this case is Jordan is a licensed counseling psychologist, and she hung up a sign that stated she was a doctor. Ethically, she cannot state that, she also was giving away self-help books to people who scheduled appointments with her, and that is unprofessional. The issue is she was being deceptive towards people because she was making it that in order to get a self-help book they needed to set up an appointment and, this could harm a potential client. There were some ethical codes that were broke. C.3.d, which states, how counselors do not recruit their clients by using their place of employment. C.4.d, Jordan put up a sign that stated the doctor is in, was inappropriate, she gave the impression that she was a doctor, and not a counselor. C.5 Jordan discriminated against those who did not sign up for an appointment and she did so by not giving them a self-help book. No laws were broken. Consultation was not administered in this scenario. Jordan should have went to her supervisor, or contacted the counselors organization first. The other professional had every right to turn Jordan in to the licensing board because she may have felt that Jordan was breaking a policy or practice. The consequences could be she could lose her licensing. If Jordan would have come to me, I would have advised against offering free self-help books.
