In this clinical case, “Just Don’t Tell My Husband”, Dr. Wilkins has a patient that is due to deliver her second daughter in six weeks. The patient who is now 33 is requesting her doctor to “tie her tubes” after the delivery of her second child. Her doctor agreed to do so, but she also requested that he does not tell her husband. While she knows her husband wants a son.
One side to this issue is the physician patient relationship of confidentiality. Despite what the husband wants, the physician has a loyalty to the patient and not the husband. It would be unethical for the doctor to release any information regarding the tubal ligation procedure.
