Case Study: Milliken Gospel Church

The place I volunteered at is at my church and the organization is called Milliken Gospel Church. This camp is held every year at the church. I volunteered at a summer camp called Vacational Bible School for kids to learn about Jesus and God and to have fun. I started volunteering at July 27, 2015, to August 7, 2015. It begins at 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and sometimes after to clean up. I chose to volunteer at this organization because it let me interact with new people, helps me to learn something new and to acquire new skills. It also gets me to be involved in my community. My role and responsibilities at the summer camp is an arts and crafts assistant where I’m responsible for preparing crafts for the kids to make and to have fun with. Aside from that, I’m also responsible for other things such as: to carefully watch out for the younger kids, set up chairs, tables and activities, help put away any harmful items and to set a good role model for them.

One positive thing about my volunteer work is it lets me develop leadership skills. I liked this because it helps me to be more comfortable at public speaking, to make good decisions and to manage my time better. It is a great way to develop skills and friendships with people. In addition, my volunteer work is also related to a public issue because participating in this summer camp prevents any family issues occurring involving with handling a child/children. For example, I know in my church that many adults have at least more than one child and many have their kids to join in the camp for the parents to enjoy themselves. So, it’s my duty to carefully watch over the kids and let them have fun without having their parents
