Mom greeted the clinical team at the door. Mom lead the clinical team to the couch. Then, mom stated a number of concerns in regards to Maxx’s overall development. In terms of communication, mom stated that Maxx struggles with the following: following two-step instructions without the use of multiple prompts and siting and attending to a nonpreferred activity for longer than one second. However, Maxx displays a number of strengths in regards to communication, such as, he is verbal, he can display eye-contact, he can look when his name is called, and he can talk in complete sentences using five or more words. In addition, he can he can accept and give compliments, he can respond and ask “Wh” questions (i.e. Who, What, When, Where, and Why), and he uses both pronouns and prepositions appropriately. Furthermore, Maxx can recall both past and future events, he can read, receptively identify simple and complex emotions, he knows the days of the week, can sit for a preferred activity for more than one hour, and engage in dialogue. …show more content…
To illustrate, Maxx cannot read social cues, he invades both familiar and unfamiliar people’s personal space (i.e. gets too close to their face and points his finger close to their eyes), he has difficulty modulating his tone of voice in various settings (i.e. does not whisper in movie theater), and struggles with losing at board games without displaying maladaptive behaviors. In addition, his emotions tend not to match social situations and he has difficulty coping with frustration. However, Maxx can tell simple jokes and understand simple jokes and play board games
