Presenting Problem/Identifying Information
Thaddeus Mcnaughton is a 28 year old, African American male, in the second year of his Master’s program at Seton Hall University. Thaddeus presented for counseling because he is currently trying to figure out what career options will best suit him after he completes his degree. Thaddeus lives in Columbus, Georgia where he has previously worked in customer service and mental health. Although Thaddeus is pursuing a degree in counseling, he is concerned that this field isn’t the best fit for his personality and interests. Thaddeus’ experience in the mental health field has led him to question whether he wants to continue on this path because his values have changed over the years.
Social/Family Background
Thaddeus is the older of two children raised by a single mother from Brooklyn, New york City. Thaddeus lived in Brooklyn till the age of 18, which is when he moved to Columbus, Georgia with his mother and younger brother. Thaddeus works as an Intake Coordinator at mental health facility, and has been in the mental health field for four years now. While he doesn’t dislike his job, Thaddeus is not completely satisfied with the work he does as well as the people he works with. However, he continues to stay at his current job because the position pays well. Due to the limited job opportunities in Columbus, Thaddeus eventually wants to move to Atlanta, Georgia where there are more high paying jobs. Socially, Thaddeus is a part of a fraternity, so he takes time out to meet up with his frat brothers, hang out, mentor younger men, and conduct fraternity business. Though he enjoys going to the movies, plays, and playing sports, his daily life consists of family, work, and
