I do not believe that tipped wages should be raised. Both arguments can be made, but there is more solid evidence that these wages shouldn’t rise. Such evidence is that menu prices will rise, people will be laid off, and the matter of taxes evens out.
If tipped wages rise, menu prices will rise correspondingly. In order to cover the cost of these new payments, the restaurant will have no other choice. Take it from the store manager, who has had experience in the business. “If Waffle Now were required to pay servers the higher wage, I might need to raise the prices of our menu items to cover the wage increase. I fear that Waffle Now will lose many customers because of this. The restaurant may be forced to close.” She actually FEARS for the future
