Today was an easier day. I was talking to the caseworkers about experiences that they had in the past. I rarely talk to other caseworkers in different programs and I wanted to know what their experiences were. One caseworker told me that she went into a house with rat traps all over the floor and she did not want to be there, but she needed to get information from the client’s mother. I knew right away if I was her I would have left the home because I am terrified of rodents. She said that she sat on the couch and she was talking with the mother when she noticed something run across the room. As she was telling the story I scrunched up my face because I knew it had to have been a rat that ran across the floor. She said that it was indeed a rodent. …show more content…
The mother got up in excitement that she had caught some rats. The caseworker said the mother jumped up grabbing a garbage can and putting the traps in the can. After she collected the traps she threw them outside of her trailer. The caseworker said she was just so shocked she did not know what to do. She said that the mother sat back on the couch and she continued the conversation; however, the caseworker was still in shocked. Instead of the caseworker continuing the conversation she rescheduled another time to meet with the mother and left. I said that the caseworker handled that well because I would have freaked out when I saw the traps. The caseworker said while they were talking, she heard the rats in the walls and attic. The rats were so loud that she had to talk over the noise that the rats were creating. I knew that at that moment social workers had to endure a
