The murder of Caylee Anthony captivated the entire nation. The trial and investigation had many twists and turns. The following is my analysis of the crime scene where Caylee’s body was found and a plan for forensic processing of the crime site. Caylee Anthony was two years old when she went missing. She reported missing on July 28th, 2008, although she was not seen for nearly a month before that. Her body was found in a wooded area less than a mile from the Anthony home on December 11th, 2008. Unfortunately, medical examiners could not find a cause of death because of decomposition, and animals scattering and chewing on the bones in the time it was there. The body could have been dumped days after she was reported missing, although investigators do not know an exact date. This would match up with what detectives said at a bond hearing for Casey Anthony, the girl’s mother, on July 22nd, 2008. They claimed to have found hair that resembled Caylee’s in the trunk of her mother’s car. They also stated that cadaver dogs had caught scent of human decomposition. On October 24th, 2008 authorities claimed to have found traces of chloroform in Casey Anthony’s car as well. When the autopsy was released, medical examiners found that there was duct tape wrapped around Caylee’s head, from her chin to her nose and that it was attached before death. When the body was found the duct tape was still attached, holding the jaw in place. They did not find any evidence of trauma on the girls remains
