In the story “Casey at the Bat” and “David and Goliath” there are differences and similarities between them. The first similarity was they both had problems they had to face. In Casey at the Bat it says “And now the pitcher holds the ball, and now he lets go.” Casey had to face the complication of having to hit a homerun in the 9th inning. In the story David and Goliath it says “When Goliath started forward, David ran toward him.” David had the complication of having to kill Goliath. The next similarity is they both were confident they were not going to fail. The story Casey at the Bat it says “ But Casey still ignored it, and the umpire said Strike Two. ”Casey was confident that he only needed one hit to hit a homerun. Casey at the Bat it says “And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat. Casey was cheered for when he stepped up to bat. In the story David and Goliath it says “I am David the son of Jesse, a loyal Israelite from Bethlehem.” Everyone knew his name after he killed Goliath. The first difference is that David’s situation had been life and death, but Casey’s situation had been just a baseball game. In Casey at the Bat it says “ mighty Casey has struck out.” It had been just a baseball game. In the story David and Goliath it says “When Goliath started forward, David ran toward him.” It was a life and death situation for David and Goliath. The next difference is David was prepared unlike Casey . In Casey at the Bat it says “That ain’t my style.” All Casey was being overconfident. In the story David and Goliath it says “He went out to a stream and picked up five smooth rocks and put them in his leather bag. Then with his sling in his hand, he went straight toward Goliath.” He was prepared with 5 stones, his leather bag, and his shepherd's stick. The last difference is David succeeded and Casey did not.
