Dealing with Death Death, it’s a very sensitive subject that everyone ends up facing in life. No matter what, people that you love and care for are gonna die and there’s nothing you can do about it. When you are put in this situation what is most important is how you deal with. In the book Catcher in the Rye, Holden who is the main character and he handles death in a very weird but in some ways relatable way. He is in some cases triggered by anger instead of sorrow, instead of giving in to what he knows is true he hides from it, also his opinions on death and how he would like to experience it is something that is not so attracting to others. I don't blame them. I really don't. I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows with my fist, just for the hell of it. I even tried to break all the windows on the station wagon we had that summer, but my hand was already broken and everything by that time, and I couldn't do it.”-Holden. In this quote from the book we see how Holden instead of talking to someone and expressing his feelings, he releases his anger and punches through and even takes it even farther by breaking his hand when punching the windows on the station wagon. By holding in these feelings he gains a different outlook on life and starts to judge many people based on their actions and not thinking about death as much as he did. “There was this one boy at Elkton Hills, named James Castle, that wouldn't take back something he said about this very conceited boy, Phil Stabile. Stabile, with about six other dirty bastards, went down to Castle's room and went in and locked the goddam door and tried to make him take back what he said, but he wouldn't do it.[...] Finally, what he did, instead of taking back what he said, he jumped out the window.” What a way to die, instead of just taking back what he said and apologizing, he commits suicide and dies. Holden’s actions are kind of similar, instead accepting everyone for who they are and not call them names
