Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is considered to be reasonably preventable. 4% of patients who are diagnosed with CAUTI develop bacteremia or sepsis, with mortality rates ranging between 10% and 30%. Catheter care and daily evaluation of need of catheter is recommended to avoid unnecessary delay to discontinue urinary catheter (Mills, G. 2015). In order to succeed on the protocol implementation and the associated reduction in CAUTI incidence rate, the author will conduct a teaching session for the clinical staff in the unit and intend to apply experiential learning theory.
