A recent study from an animal welfare organization reported that overpopulation in cats is still a major problem in Canada, despite the fact that more and more cat owners in that area spay and neuter their pets.

Around 9.3 million cats are reportedly owned by Canadians, with about 37 percent of them owning at least one cat, according to a survey included in a report by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies.

According to Marcie Moriarty, Chief Prevention and Enforcement Officer for the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA), "We're still seeing too many unwanted births, too many kittens coming in through shelters and not enough spay and neuter.”
