A year later unannounced Margente and Bailey Jr's father shows up in stamps . He was tall, had a nice car, and he spoke proper English when Marguente seen him she was amazed but then self conscious of having to be compared to his greatness .After three weeks visiting in Stamps, their father Bailey tells them that he is going back to California and taking them with him.On their way leaving out their father tells them that they will be meeting their mother.When they finally do they fall head over heels for her and her beauty .After dropping them off their father continues on his way to California .Being newly introduced to her grandmother Baxter which is of German decent, and married to Grandfather Baxter of west Indian decent .She is also introduced to three other uncles which were Ira , Tommy , and Tutti which where know and had reputation of being mean .At Marguente and Bailey Jr's school they are the smartest students and they are pushed up a grade to not make the other children feel intimidated .Marguente still hasn't quiet adjusted to her new town in St.Louis . Marguente silence frustrates her family and her and Bailey Jr are sent back to stamps .When they return to stamps everything is the same though they do become little starlites due to the time they spent away .Marguente is more understood in stamps for being "tender hearted ".Marguente continues her silence for a while until she takes a interest in Mrs.Bertha Flowers .One day she stops by the store and has Marguente help her deliver some groceries to her house and when arrived she invites Marguente to have some lemonade and cookies and also gives her a book that would open the world of poetry to her .Mrs. Flowers is able to have Marguente speak again through literature
